What is a Bearlock gearbox lock?

A Bearlock is a fully mechanical and maintenance-free lock that is integrated into your car’s shifting mechanism. It locks the gear lever in 'Reverse' (for a manual gearbox) or in 'Park' (P) (for an automatic/DSG), making it impossible to drive the car away, even if thieves have cloned the car key.

Will I receive an SCM certificate after a Bearlock has been installed?

Yes. When Wheels 'N Customs installs the Bearlock, you will receive an official VbV/SCM certificate (Mechanical Security class). This document is required by virtually all Dutch insurers when taking out theft cover on theft-sensitive cars.

How many keys do I get with a Bearlock system?

You will receive 3 patented keys as standard, including a unique key card. Without this key card no spare keys can be made. Make sure you keep this card safely at home.

Can’t a thief just break open the Bearlock?

Breaking open a Bearlock is virtually impossible without hours of heavy grinding and milling with powerful electric tools. Thieves often have only a few minutes and will therefore pass over a car with a visible mechanical lock.

How many keys do I receive with the system?

When your car is handed over, you will receive 3 special patented keys and a unique key card (code card). It is extremely important that you store this key card safely. Without this card you cannot order new spare keys via Bearlock.

How long does installation take at your workshop?

Installation time varies greatly by make and model. In some vehicles, a significant part of the interior and the centre console must be removed to access the shifting mechanism. On average, allow for half to a full working day. We will schedule this with you precisely.
