When August Bilstein laid the first stone for the innovation factory in Altenvoerde, Germany, in 1873, no one could have anticipated the decisive influence that BILSTEIN products would one day have on automotive safety. Today, Bilstein sets the absolute benchmark for high-quality shock absorbers. At Wheels 'N Customs we supply and install the complete Bilstein range.
Key facts (TL;DR):
Bilstein is renowned worldwide for inventing the extremely robust gas-pressure shock absorber (Mono-tube Upside-Down technology). The range spans from OEM replacement dampers (B4) and performance-oriented sport dampers (B6/B8) to complete sport suspensions (B12) and premium coilover kits (B14/B16) offering stepless adjustability for road and track.
| Type / Line | Features | Application / Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Bilstein B4 | Standard gas-pressure replacement damper (black) | OEM-quality replacement for faulty/leaking original shock absorbers. |
| Bilstein B6 | Performance damper (yellow), firmer & sportier | Improved, tighter handling at the original ride height (no lowering required). |
| Bilstein B8 | Shortened performance damper for lowered cars | Ideal and designed to be combined with lowering springs (such as Eibach / H&R). |
| Bilstein B12 | Complete sport suspension (B8 dampers + Eibach springs) | Fixed lowering (on average 25-40mm) with perfectly matched handling. |
| Bilstein B14 / B16 | Coilover kits with stepless height adjustment | Maximum control, track use and individual height setting (B16 also offers damping adjustment). |
The above price is an indication for installation of the shock absorbers/coilover kit only and is including 3D alignment of your vehicle after installation.
Note: The exact installation hours depend on the condition of the vehicle. Labour hours are calculated afterwards. Your car must always remain with us for at least 1 working day for installation. If the kit needs to be configured via software (e.g. B16 Ridecontrol), additional costs may apply.
Unlike cheaper, conventional twin-tube dampers, Bilstein's Mono-tube technology separates the oil and high-pressure nitrogen gas by means of a piston. This prevents foaming in the oil (cavitation), even under extreme loads and high temperatures, ensuring the damper consistently delivers its maximum and safe performance.
No. If you are fitting lowering springs, you must choose the Bilstein B8 series. In terms of internal operation and firmness the B8 is identical to the B6, but it features a shortened piston rod. This keeps a lowering spring under the correct (safe) preload instead of rattling loose in the spring seat when the car unloads.
